An article was found on Fox News, posted November 1, 2009, that gives some hope that it may be easier to get Paul and Rachel home quicker and for less money!

According to the news post, Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Program announced he has been working with Somali elders to help free the couple.

 

“The (Somali) pirates realize now that the Chandlers are not rich people.  They will be persuaded to lower their demand, maybe to $165,000″- as quoted by Mwangura

While it appears the pirates are willing to negotiate, the fact still stands that they are still being held with the impending threat of being killed if their demands are not met.   Some of you may not agree with giving into the pirates demands, however, if we can help these people escape from the region it will clear the way for the US, British and other governments to ‘get involved’ to put a permanent end to this problem!

Thanks to the help of both this site and the Facebook group, which now has 309 members (up from 70 on Friday), the message is spreading quickly about the Chandlers.  I just came across an article that was written on Saturday located at Kentonline.co.uk which talks about their story.  They reiterate that the pirates are getting very restless and there is a strong possibility they could be ‘killed within a week’.

Unfortunately, there has been no follow up video to the one released on Friday, however Im happy to see that more people are getting involved!  The more that get involved with this matter, the better chance Paul and Rachel Chandler will make it through unharmed.  Also, thank you to all those that have emailed at SaveTheChandlers@gmail.com with your support.

LOTS of hits to www.SaveTheChandlers.com, no help…yet

The stats are showing that the FaceBook group dedicated to Paul and Rachel Chandler have more then doubled since last night at 11:00pm to 170 members.  This site has gathered some attention from search engines and concerned readers.  However, I am still looking for others to take over this blog!

My goal is to help the Chandlers, however I cant do it on my own.  If you want to help Paul and Rachel Chandler obtain freedom from their Somali captives, then spreading the word about this subject (and posting blogs) is imperative!

I have no idea if raising money or spreading awareness is the best thing to do for this couple that was hijacked last month.  But, what I do know, is that if more people offer to help and support this cause then it WILL get the attention of the powers that be that can make something positive happen!

I cant stress this enough, I (or we, if I can speak collectively for the FaceBook group) need help with posting information about this subject until it is resolved.  I cant help but think that if nobody steps up to the plate and offers to lend a hand then the result will not be good for this couple.

BTW, I have commitments that WILL take me away from this blog tomorrow so I need to give this to others that can continue the cause before then!

Family of British couple make appeal for their release

The family of the kidnapped British sailors have pleaded for their release.   Im glad to see that they are trying to persuade the pirated to do the “humanitarian thing and let them go”, as quoted by BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner. 

According to reports it appears that they (the Chandlers) are very concerned about an Islamist group in Somalia called Al-Shabaab possibly ‘purchasing’ them and placing more demands.  

In a video released yesterday Mrs Chandler said: “We are told that there is a terrorist cell, or a fanatic cell, searching for us and we are also feeling very much under threat now that these people themselves won’t hesitate to take our lives.”

I just found the Chandlers website that is/was documenting their journey.   Their last entry was “PLEASE RING SARAH” posted on Friday October 23, 2009.   According to reports, this would have been 1 day after the capture.

I haven’t read through the whole site yet, however it appears that all was well until the last post.
With the last message in all CAPs making reference to “Sarah”, I would assume that the Chandlers may have access to a satellite phone and were reaching out for help.

Sarah, if there is anything I, or this site, can do right now, please contact me at SaveTheChandlers@gmail.com As I’ve been mentioning, my goal is to help people like the Chandlers in coming to a resolution of this matter through the power of the internet (and hopefully the power of companies such as Google)

Thanks to the Huffingtonpost, I found this picture of Paul and Rachel.   According to their article, the couple said they were fearful they will be killed or handed to a terrorist group if a ransom is not paid soon.  Paul said he has, “no doubt that they will not hesitate to kill us in a week or so from now”, filmed by a Channel 4 crew.

I have a feeling that this blog may start a debate about the pros and cons of paying a ransom.  Both our governments choose to NOT participate and it makes sense as to why this is the case.   This, however, doesnt prevent individuals from helping in any way they can!

As Im following this story, Im constantly thinking of EVERYONE out there that can help with this cause.    While Im scanning things on the net and the news about the status of Paul and Rachel, Im sure Im not seeing it all.  It would be EXTREMELY helpful if others who want to contribute to this post contact me at SaveTheChandlers@gmail.com

You will NOT get paid to do this, and you will be contributing because you feel as compelled as I do about this subject!  The only people who will benefit from this will be the Chandlers!

If you dont want to contribute, at least change your status on your social network account (FaceBook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc…) to point  a link to this site.   Even passive support is considered support!!

Using PayPal to help Paul & Rachael Chandler

I set up a PayPal donate account where I will name  Google to be the recipient of the funds so they can help Paul and Rachael Chandler.

I will keep everyone posted as I see more information about whats going on.  Im hoping that the message will also get to the Pirates and they will see that someone is working on a plan that could work for everyone.   The more the word is spread, the more this blog may help!   PLEASE use the sites you visit daily like FaceBook or MySpace or even LinkedIn to post a status on your message that has this URL so they can possibly help too.   Better yet, send the link to this blog via email to people that may be able to help.

I have set up the DONATE button on the site and it is live.  As I have said in other parts of this site, ALL proceeds will go towards helping Paul and Rachel Chandlers obtain freedom from their captors.

This world is really making me ill!

Friday 11:54pm, November 20 2009:

I just heard on the TV that there are 2 sailors who where captured this last month by pirates.  According to the Associated Press, Paul and Rachel Chander were kidnapped when the pirates seized their 38-foot yacht, the Lynn Rival, while they were sailing towards Tanzania.

$7,000,000.00  (Seven Million) dollars are being requested for their release and much like our government, Britain insists they will not pay ransom to the kidnappers.  Im not suggesting that we raise either raise the money and find a way to give it to them, or use the funds to hire a negotiating team to see if they can talk with the pirates.

Either way I think that something should be done to help them!
As Im sitting here working on this blog, Im going to find a way to accept funds via a Google checkout.   ABSOLUTELY ALL FUNDS WILL GO TO GOOGLE! I will turn over all account numbers to Google and only them.  Im hoping that with their network & bureaucratic powers with the governments that be, they can see fit that the money goes to the right place.  I repeat, I dont wany ANYTHING from this site other than to help Paul and Rachel Chander return to their familys!
