What gets me is the double standard of the British Government. When a Pakistani boy whose parents live in the UK was kidnapped in Pakistan, the Manchester Police (i.e. the Government) had no problem finding a large proportion of the ransom money. In the event the money was recaptured, but there was no guarantee that this was going to happen. Yet they can't do the same for the Chandlers. Why not hand over the ransom money, get them back safely and then send the Navy / Army in to recapture the money and capture those responsible for the kidnapping so that they can stand trial in this country? It appears to me that the British Government can pay ransom money for immigrants, but can't do the same for their own people. I am sorry, but I can only interpret this as racism.

I'm not British, but I hardly see how one can blame the British government for "cruelty". I doubt any government can protect each and every one of their citizens around this world, especially those that put themselves in harms way, and in this situation, how could they responsibly contribute to piracy by handing over the ransom money? Now the only cruelty here is from the pirates/those holding the couple. Innocent people. Blame them, even if we can't identify who they are just yet.

It's just totally unbelievable that the British Government could be so callous and not even seem to be bothered about their plight. I'm staggered at their total cruelty. I hope someone takes it upon themselves to act on the couple's behalf. Obviously they can't wait for the government to act.
